Dear Clients and Friends,
2022 was a big year for Arete Wealth Strategists. We took on new staff, migrated some core programs we’d been using for the past 4 years, refined our planning processes further and took on a number of new client families.
From the viewpoint of financial markets and investor returns, 2022 was a lacklustre year to put it mildly. It was a year driven by inflation and interest rates. Pent-up savings that resulted from lockdowns and various stimulus packages enacted throughout the pandemic combined a backlog of orders set the stage for the highest inflation seen since the early 1980's. Getting inflation back down is viewed as the highest priority of Central banks, and the main tool at their disposal much to the chagrin of those on variable mortgages, is interest rates.
Unfortunately for investors, the rising rate environment worked to bring down what were elevated asset prices coming into 2022. We also saw a decoupling of the usual diversification benefit we see between equities and fixed income, with many sectors of the bond markets also posting double digit declines.
Despite these asset value adjustments, we keep a steady eye on our client’s goals and work to keep you updated as applicable. We’ re pleased to see how our goal based investment philosophy has served clients by providing peace of mind that in most instances, goals remain unaffected.
As our capacity continues to grow, so does our ability to work with and help more people, so if you know of someone who is looking for help or a second opinion when it comes to their personal or professional finances, their tax affairs, or their wealth management strategies, we would be delighted to have a confidential, absolutely no obligation chat with them to see if we are able to assist.
Please feel free to be in touch or share our contact information with them directly.

I wanted to write and introduce you to the newest member of the Areté Wealth Strategists team; our wonderful new Client Services Administrator Susan Poirier.
Susan brings over 20 years of experience and executive assistance in a business environment to Areté. As a company founder herself, she understands the client needs for communication, contact and support to ensure a long-term, sustainable partnership.
