Do you know anybody who has been looking for a salaried position and having trouble finding one? If you do, it’s kind of a head-scratcher, because the U.S. economy has been creating between 10 million and 11 million new jobs every month—11.2 million in July, the most recent month where we have statistics. By some measures, there are now two job openings for every unemployed person, with the most opportunities in retail trade, transportation, warehousing and utilities, but also significant openings in arts, entertainment and recreation.
Even so, there are apparently still people who are looking and not finding. In a recent poll, only 48% of Americans said that jobs were ‘plentiful.”
